with a Privilege to travel freely and a curiosity to explore, i moved from Amsterdam to Unguja, zanzibar, in 2015. what was supposed to be a five months journey, remains my home-base until today.
travelling and working abroad made me realise quickly that the tourism industry has multiple faces – a paradox I’m confronted by. and yet i strongly believe that travel is incredibly meaningful, where everyone involves has a role of a student – as long as we listen – and as a teacher – as long as we question.

out of the need for a positive narrative of zanzibar’s future in sustainable tourism, the educational and membership platform Slow Travel Zanzibar was created by a collective of female hoteliers. a platform with a focus on transparency and dialogue, building bridges travellers, destinations, operators and organisations.
